Adolescence
is a fundamental period of development because it represents the transition
between life as a child, and life as an adult. Obesity is now considered a
disease of epidemic proportions with increasing prevalence worldwide. The World
Health Organization (2006) defines obesity as a ‘global epidemic’ existing in
both developed and developing countries. The incidence of overweight and
obesity are continually rising among females who are between the age group of 11—16
years. Behavior modification programs, positive reinforcement, counseling
sessions for enhancing physical activity and balanced nutrition is recommended.
